En el libro sagrado del Taoísmo –el Tao-te-King,– aparecen numerosas alusiones y referencias al mundo político Así como en las relaciones humanas, los valores éticos y morales y, más en concreto, en el gobierno y en la forma de gobernar. En consecuencia, es lógico que en el libro del Tao aparezcan una serie de aspectos y problemas existentes en la sociedad de aquella época, y que fuesen tratados de manera filosófica, mística, etc.; pero sin intención de tratar directamente los temas políticos y económicos y atribuirles más importancia de la que realmente tenía En el libro del Tao se hacen numerosas referencias a la política y a la forma de gobernar. En este sentido, se repite frecuentemente gobernar conforme al Tao.

From this point, we can deduce that this philosophy opposes corruption and government abuses. Continuing with the above, it is also stated in the Tao: with a light government, the people become simple; with a severe government, the people become malicious. In this case, it is asserted that when there is too much intervention (too many orders as a result of intervention), the people are discontented, although the way the people act remains somewhat ambiguous according to this philosophy. It is also said that the more laws and orders are promulgated, the greater the number of thieves and wrongdoers.
